Almost 15 years ago, James Cambridge made the decision to devote his professional life to wine. After graduating top of his class from Niagara College’s Oenology/Viticulture Program, James worked at a number of great wineries—among them, Henry of Pelham, Creekside Estate Winery, Summerhill Estate Winery, Le Vieux Pin, LaStella Estate Winery, and Fort Berens—where he gained valuable experience and perspective on an ever evolving industry.
Having found his home at Backyard Vineyards, this well-established winemaker has been delighting in the possibilities yielded by combining the fruits of two valleys: the estate grown grapes at his fingertips and those he selects from the Okanagan. He values our small boutique setting for the opportunity it affords him to pay more attention to the minute details, from making all varietals from only the free run juice, to exacting methodology behind barrel size and minimal filtration techniques. The result is high quality and award-winning yet approachable wines for everyday enjoyment.
